The First Step Preschool policy regarding inclement weather is to follow School District 20 (D-20) for any snow closures or 2 hour delays. If D-20 has cancelled school for the day, we will be cancelled. If D-20 announces a 2 hour delayed start time, the morning session will be cancelled. If D-20 schools are sending children home early because of accumulating snow, our afternoon activities will be cancelled. You will be notified if the afternoon session is cancelled. Decisions on closures or delays are broadcast by 6:00 am and early release decisions are made by 10:00 am by D-20. It is necessary for parents to listen to the radio or television on snowy mornings.
Should excessively hot or cold weather occur during the school day, planned indoor activities will replace outdoor time. It is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to ensure that their child has sunscreen lotion for up to 8 hours before coming to school. Children are not allowed to bring sunscreen lotion to school. Please remember to always send coats, hats, snow boots and mittens for cold weather.
